Kathmandu, Sept. 11: Foreign Affairs Minister Dr.
Prakash Sharan Mahat Sunday left for New Delhi for a 3-day official visit at an
invitation of his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj.
It was his maiden foreign trip after
assuming office a month ago.
His visit is expected to set the
tone or the visit of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda starting from
mid-September.
“Prime Minister’s visit is aimed
at strengthening bilateral relations by enhancing mutual trust and
understanding and implementing past agreements such as Pancheshwor, power purchase
agreement and Hulaki Road," said the Minister.
He hinted that there might be
discussion on the dams that India constructed on the Nepal-India borders.
Dams have submerged many settlements on the
Nepalese side during the monsoon.
Dr. Mahat refuted the news
reports that constitution amendment bill would be registered at the
Legislature-Parliament before the PM’s visit.
He said that the government was
preparing proposals to utilize the soft loan of 1 billion USD that Indian PM
Modi announced to provide to Nepal
during his visit two years ago.
He will be accompanied by joint
secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bhrigu Dhungana and high officials
of the Nepalese Embassy in New Delhi.
Dr. Mahat is scheduled to return
Kathmandu on Tuesday.
