Kathmandu, June 28
President
of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI),
Chandra Prasad Dhakal, held a meeting with Wang Xi, Minister of the United
Front Work Department of China’s Guangdong Provincial Government.
In the
meeting that took place at the FNCCI Secretariat in Kathmandu on Friday, they
talked about issues concerning economic and diplomatic relations between the
two countries, as well as trade, investment, and avenues for cooperation.
On the
occasion, Dhakal highlighted the longstanding and trustworthy relationship
between Nepal and China and urged for collaboration in the fields of technology
and innovation. He also emphasised the potential for collaboration between
Nepal and Guangdong in trade and investment.
“There is
promising potential for trade and investment with Guangdong. Its experience in
science and technology and its active efforts to foster both international and
domestic partnerships can open new avenues for cooperation between Nepal and
Guangdong,” said Dhakal.
He also
informed Minister Wang about the initiatives taken by the FNCCI to create a
more business-friendly environment, according to a statement issued by the
business body.
Stressing
the need for a bilateral investment agreement between Nepal and China, Dhakal
said, “Such an agreement will strengthen the legal and institutional framework
and encourage Chinese investors to invest in Nepal.”
He
requested support from the Guangdong Government in connecting with potential
investors and institutions from these sectors. He also stated that the FNCCI is
ready to collaborate on joint ventures, trade visits, and knowledge exchange
programmes.
Likewise,
Minister Wang Xi, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the
Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, affirmed China’s continuous support for
Nepal’s economic development.
He said that
China is willing to share its successes in technology and innovation with Nepal
to support its development. “China has made significant strides in the fields
of technology and innovation. Nepal can benefit greatly from our experience. We
are ready for such cooperation,” he said.
Minister
Wang also expressed willingness to promote collaboration in food processing,
agriculture, and tourism, and assured that he would take initiatives for
economic cooperation between Nepal and Guangdong.
