'Stringers have a big responsibility'

Dhangadhi, Apr. 17

Executive Chairman of the Gorkhapatra Corporation Krishna Murari Bhandari said on Wednesday that the stringers working for the publications of the organisation had a big responsibility.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the 2-day journalism workshop organised by the corporation for the journalists here, he also said that the stringers had immense opportunities to show their performance.

He directed the stringers who attended the training to fulfill their duty diligently because they had an opportunity.

Bhandari said that the corporation would award the stringers performing better and fire those who do not fulfill their duties well.

According to him, the organisation has initiated reforms through small works.

"Very soon, bureau offices will be established in each State and a senior journalist will lead the bureau," he added.

Member of the Gorkhapatra Board of Director Durga Prasad Bhandari said that some significant changes had happened in the corporation. He pointed towards the need for increasing the payment and facilities to the stringers as they were underpaid.

He recommended deploying at least one permanent journalist staff in every district.

Likewise, Consulting Editor of the corporation Gopal Khanal said that the organisation had high expectation from the stringers.

“Stringers working in the districts are the strength of the corporation. Therefore, you have to play a crucial role to make it better. If we can’t strengthen the organisation now, it will never happen,” he said.

He urged the stringers to write investigative stories and news on the potentials of the state of Sudurpaschim.

Stringers from all nine districts of the State attended the workshop.

They were trained by Editor-in-Chiefs of the Gorkhapatra and The Rising Nepal Shree Om Prasad Shrestha and Jagadish Pokhrel respectively, Chief of Province Bureau of Gorkhapatra Gokarna Prasad Aryal, Linguist Saratchandra Osti, and coordinator of Naya Nepal Kumar Bibekananda Mishra.
