Kathmandu,

Vice-Chairman
of the National Planning Commission (NPC), Dr. Min Bahadur Shrestha, and Vice-Chairman
of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China, Cong Liang,
have reached an understanding to speed up the programmes that remain to be
implemented as per the agreements reached between the two organisations in 2018
and 2019.
In
a meeting held at the NDRC Office in Beijinng on Sunday, the VC-duo also
discussed about the work to be done by the governments of Nepal and China to
facilitate the speedy implementation of the programmes, the NPC said in a
statement.
Since
Nepal is going to formulate the upcoming 16th plan, there was also a
discussion about sharing the experience between the NPC and NDRC and the latter
providing technical assistance Nepal's planning body.
Dr.
Shrestha has invited (NDRC) Vice President Cong to visit Nepal at an
appropriate time. The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) promoted by this
commission is currently under implementation.
Meanwhile,
the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing informed that Dr. Shrestha was in Beijing to
participate in the first High-level meeting of the forum on 'Global Action for
Shared Development' organised by China International Development Cooperation
Agency on 8-11 July.
He
participated in a group meeting with Han Zheng, Vice-President of China on
Tuesday morning. "While expressing gratitude for their valuable
participation of high-level representatives from various countries, Vice-President
Han underscored the importance of collaborative action between global partners
from South and North for shared prosperity and common development of the world,"
read the statement issued by the embassy.
Addressing
the sub-forum on “Global goods, Poverty reduction and Agricultural transition:
A Juncture for South-south Cooperation,” on July 10, VC Dr. Shrestha shed light
on the existing policies and plan of Nepal to promote poverty alleviation and
agricultural development, while at the same time highlighted the significance
of global efforts for the development of global south.
The
forum was attended by over 120 high-level international delegations including 23
high-level representatives participating offline particularly from Solomon
Islands, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Cambodia, Nepal, Pakistan, Egypt, Bangladesh,
Uganda, Burundi, Myanmar, among others.
On
the sidelines, Dr. Shrestha held a bilateral meeting with Deng Boqing, Vice-Chairman
of China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) on July 9.
Matters of mutual interests for strengthening bilateral cooperation between
Nepal and China were discussed during the meeting.
The
Nepali delegation comprised of Bishnu Pukar Shrestha, Ambassador of Nepal to
China, and other senior officials from the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing and the NPC.
The delegation returned Kathmandu on Tuesday.
