Lalitpur, Dec. 26
Nepal Applied Mathematics
and Informatics Institute (NAAMII) is organising the Annual Nepal AI School
(ANAIS), an 11-day academic programme, from December 27, 2024, to January 6,
2025, in Kathmandu.
The fifth edition of this
flagship event this year is focused on the foundations and applications of
artificial intelligence, it announced at a press conference organised in
Lalitpur on Wednesday.
The ANAIS is a unique
platform in South Asia that brings together scientists, faculties, and
participants for intensive AI lectures, labs and project works from all over
the world.
"The course covers
depth from fundamentals to a wide range of applications and domains, including
the frontier of recently developed ideas and methods," said NAAMII.
Being hosted at Premier
International School, Khumaltar, a total of 200 computer sciences Bachelor,
Master and PhD level students as well as professionals working in the area of
artificial intelligence (AI) from Nepal and beyond can enrol on this course. This
is the fifth edition of the event. Over the past four editions, more than 550
students from over 40 countries have attended the AI School, informed Bishesh
Khanal, Director of NAAMII.
According to him, the
event aims to give exposure to Nepali as well as international students and AI
professionals to the cutting-edge developments that are happening at the global
level.
A total of 25
international scientists as well as professors with a huge level of experience
and contribution in the AI sector will conduct physical classes on three major
areas, Geometric Deep Learning, Foundational Models and Application, and Modern
Practices.
Khanal said that the
event provides a platform for participants to share knowledge, ideas and
innovations in the field, and it is an excellent opportunity for attendees to
network and collaborate with one another.
“We are at a pivotal
moment in Nepal's journey toward embracing artificial intelligence, as the
government drafts its AI policy and releases a concept paper outlining the
scope of AI implementation in the country,” he said. “In this dynamic context,
we are hopeful to stir necessary discussions and create required expertise in
Nepal through ANAIS.
Likewise, Head of
Education Outreach of NAAMII, Alok Khatri, said, “Over 11 intensive days in
each edition, attendees have the chance to learn from world-class experts,
participate in practical workshops and expand their professional networks.”
