PM Oli, Pakistani envoy discuss SAARC revival

Kathmandu, Dec. 24

Pakistan's Ambassador to Nepal, Abrar H. Hashmi, called on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the latter's residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday.

During the courtesy call, they discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors, including trade, tourism, culture, agriculture, renewable energy, disaster management, and education, informed the Prime Minister's Office in a statement.

Prime Minister Oli emphasised Nepal’s efforts to revitalise the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) as the chair of the regional organisation.

He called on member states to play constructive roles in reactivating the organisation, stressing that bilateral disputes between any two nations should not hinder the functioning of regional platforms like SAARC.

"Highlighting Nepal’s foreign policy of maintaining friendly relations with all countries, PM Oli reiterated the nation's commitment to expanding cooperation based on sovereign equality and mutual benefit," read the statement.

Ambassador Hashmi expressed Pakistan's readiness to host the SAARC Summit and conveyed his country’s interest in furthering collaboration with Nepal across various fields in the future.
