Kathmandu, Nov. 5
Fourteen Nepali nationals who had been lured through
various means and taken to Myanmar, where they were forced to work in illegally
operated online scamming centres, have been rescued.
The Embassy of Nepal In Thailand in coordination with
the concerned authorities of Myanmar and Thailand successfully rescued them
from Myawaddy, Myanmar, and brought them to Thailand via the Mae Sot
Immigration Office in Tak Province.
They were repatriated to Nepal on Wednesday on Nepal
Airlines flight RA402, the Embassy informed in a statement.
"Similarly, efforts are underway, in coordination
with the relevant authorities of Myanmar and Thailand, to repatriate 11 more
Nepali nationals from Myanmar at the earliest possible time," read the
statement.
Since 19 October this year, more than 2,000 foreign
nationals from 28 different countries, including 38 Nepalis, have entered
Thailand after being rescued from various scamming centres in Myawaddy.
According to the Embassy, coordination with the Thai
authorities is ongoing to facilitate the return of these 38 Nepalis to Nepal as
well.
The Embassy has again urged Nepali citizens to travel
abroad for employment only after obtaining labour approval as prescribed by the
government, and to avoid being misled by false promises of easy and quick money
abroad. "In particular, individuals are strongly advised not to travel to
countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand under the pretext of
tourism for illegal employment purposes," it said.
The Embassy has rescued hundreds of Nepali nationals
from scam centres in Myanmar in the past several years.
