Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Thursday
said that the misunderstandings that emerged between Nepal
and India
in the past six months would be cleared during his state visit to the southern
neighbour.
Addressing the 68th anniversary
programme of the Nepal Council of World Affairs (NCWA), PM Oli stated that both
the countries now want to bring the bilateral relations back on the track.
“My endeavour will be to develop
relations with India
for mutual benefits and respect. It will be a successful visit,” remarked the
Prime Minister.
He said that the diplomats had
to play an important role in developing relations with the foreign countries
and other international organizations as well.
Speaking on a different note, PM
Oli said that the country had entered into another phase of transition after
the promulgation of the new constitution.
He briefed the ambassadors of
foreign countries and head of the diplomatic missions to Nepal preset on
the occasion that the constitution did not discriminate against any individual
or group or ethnicities.
The NCWA fecilitated former
Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat for the contributions he made to enhance Nepal ’s image
in the international arena.
Dr. Mahat said that Nepal ’s
dependence on external assistance was declining.
“Even after political upheaval,
armed conflict, disasters and blockade, our macro fundamentals are good. The
international community has also appreciated Nepal for this,” he said.
Rajendra Bahadur Shrestha,
president of the NCWA, said that the Council had played an important role to
promote government to government relations around the globe.
He urged the government to learn
from China and India
and redesign its diplomatic policy.
Shrestha expressed hope that the
PM’s India
visit would help to resolve misunderstanding and improve ties between the two
neighbours.
