Kathmandu,
Jan 1: The government Sunday introduced computer billing system for the taxies
in the Kathmandu Valley.
Ministry
of Industry (MoI) said that the new e-billing system for the taxi was
implemented in order to save the customers from being cheated while traveling
in taxies.
Nepal
Bureau of Standards and Metrology (NBSM) under the MoI has informed the taxis
in operation to implement the e-billing system.
The
bill will have the information like the meter number, amount to be paid and
taxi number which will discourage malpractices of taxi driver.
The
NBSM had published a notice on 19th December asking the taxies to
fix a printer meter in the vehicle and get it checked and approved by the Taxi
and Tempo Unit, Balaju.
The
taxies without e-billing system will not be renewed and their ownership won’t
be transferred, said the Ministry.
If
a taxi operator installs a printer to the current meter, it would cost Rs.
5,000 to Rs. 8,000.
Director
General of the Department Bishwo Babu Pudasaini said that the NBSM had created
a schedule to install printer meter and get it inspected. As per the schedule,
about 500 taxies will be inspected every week.
“By
the end of this fiscal year, every taxi in the Kathmandu Valley will have
e-billing system installed,” said Pudasaini.
Minister
for Industry Nabindra Raj Joshi said in a press statement that the new system
was introduced to address the grievances of the common people, who are fleeced by
taxis.
However,
he maintained that the customers should also be aware of their rights.
