RI President RIseley to arrive Nepal on Saturday

Kathmandu, Dec. 8:
Rotary International (RI) President Ian H. S. Riseley is arriving Nepal Saturday on a 4-day visit.
This is the first visit by any RI president to Nepal, one of 541 districts of the Rotary.
Riseley is scheduled to inaugurate a new higher secondary school and girls’ hostel in Makwanpur.
The higher secondary school with more than 1,000 students was devastated by the 2015 earthquake and has been reconstructed by Rotarians of RI District 3890 Tasmania, Australia with a budget of Australian $ 225,000.
He will also pay a courtesy call on President Bidhya Devi Bhandari on Monday to apprise how Rotary is helping the people of Nepal, especially to lessen the sufferings of the victims of the quake, said RI District 3292, Nepal-Bhutan.
According to Rotary Nepal, more than 3,000 temporary shelters have been constructed by the RI, and Rotary plans to construct 1,000 plus permanent low-cost houses and 140 primary schools in the 14 crisis-hit districts.
Schools will be constructed in collaboration with the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), where Rotary will provide water and sanitation, school furniture, computers, books.
The total cost of the project is US$ 9.08 million.
 Rotary was founded on February 23, 1905 in Chicago, USA.
Rotary Club of Kathmandu joined Rotary International on April 13, 1959 as the1620th club. Nepal, thus, became the 111th nation to join Rotary, which is now spread around more than 202 countries and territories around the world.
Rotary has supported in establishing different hospitals in the country, such as Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital, Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital, Koshi Zonal Hospital, National Dental Hospital, Gautam Buddha Community Heart Hospital, Bandipur Hospital and Cardiac Surgical Unit at Bir Hospital.

“Some of the other notable Rotary projects benefiting the communities of Nepal are drinking water, health and sanitation, and solar/ micro hydro projects. Basic literacy and educational support from Rotary has reached many districts of Nepal,” said Rotary Nepal.
