Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has stressed on the need of
strengthening cooperation between Nepal and France in the sectors of trade and
investment, tourism and climate change.
In a meeting with the France-Nepal Parliamentary Friendship
Group's 3-member delegation led by its chair Véronique Riotton at his official
residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday, he expressed his appreciation for the
valuable contributions made by the Parliamentary Friendship Group in promoting
Nepal-France bilateral relations, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA)
in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister's Office said in a tweet that
the two sides discussed matters relating to the promotion of Nepal-France
bilateral ties.
During the meeting, Riotton appreciated Nepal’s efforts in
promoting women’s participation in politics and in combating climate change,
and expressed the willingness to strengthen Nepal-France co-operation in the
fields of sustainable development and agriculture.
Her delegation included Nicolas Forissier and Graziella
Melchior. Ambassador of France to Nepal, Gilles Bourbao also attended the
meeting, said the MoFA.
The delegation also called on the Speaker of the House of
Representatives, Agni Prasad Sapkota. Speaking with the delegation, he
expressed his gratitude to France for its support to Nepal's economic and
social development. He also expressed confidence for the French help in
post-COVID economic rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, Riotton's team called on Speaker of the National
Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina where the latter said that COVID-19 pandemic
and climate change were the common challenges for Nepal and France and unified
efforts were needed to combat them.
The delegation is in a visit of Nepal at the invitation of President
of Nepal-France Interparliamentary Group, Madhav Kumar Nepal.
Earlier on Tuesday, the delegation had called on Minister
for Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Tuesday.
