Kathmandu,
Dec. 11
CPN-UML
chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Sunday urged the government to
begin the preparations for the elections rather than the constitution
amendment.
Speaking
at an interaction organised by the UML affiliated student organisation, ANNFSU,
he said that his party was ready to support in constitution amendment for the
sake of election.
He
urged the government to come with a amendment proposal of the article which
obstructed in holding the election.
"UML
is ready to support in that condition but we will not help in any amendment
proposal that is against the interest of the country and people," Oli
said.
He
reiterated that UML would always work for national integrity, unity, democracy
and progress of the country, and vowed to defeat every collusion against it.
"Our
ancestors saved the country and handed over to us. Therefore, we must not let
it go haywire," he said.
Saying
that the inclusion of 33 per cent women in politics was not sufficient, he
remarked that the reservation for the women should be increased.
UML
Central Committee member Sabitri Bhusal said that the amendment proposal which
was an effort to separate the hills and plains was opposed by the people and
they would not accept it.
According
to her, as violence against women was still prevalent in Nepalese society,
joint effort from all stakeholders was needed to end it.
Another
Central Committee member Rabindra Adhikari said that although the new
constitution had guaranteed women rights, there wouldn't be any progress until
and unless the constitutional provisions were implemented.
ANNFSU
president Nabina Lama, Nepali Congress Central Member Pushpa Bhusal, CPN-MC
leader Amrita Thapa Magar, and other personalities urged for a collaborative
effort to curb the violence against women.
