Rana urges China to provide duty-free access to Nepali goods

Kathmandu, Aug. 16: President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Bhawani Rana Wednesday urged China to support Nepal's private sector in enhancing the latter’s productive capacity, promoting investment and creating economic opportunities in Nepal.
During a meeting with visiting Chinese Vice-Premier Wang Yang, she also requested the northern neighbour for support in enhancing Nepali exports to China by providing duty-free access to Nepali goods and services.
“Being a next-door friendly neighbour, we hope to receive an increased flow of investment and technology transfer from China to spur our economic growth,” she said.
She stated that since Nepal was a member of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and a signatory to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), it needed greater connectivity with China.
“I hope that the AIIB and BRI would support Nepal in addressing the infrastructure gap,” she said.
According to her, the FNCCI has been working closely with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce while ‘Nepal-China Non-Governmental Cooperation Forum’ has been formed to strengthen bilateral economic ties between the two neighbours.
Chinese Vice-Premier Wang gave assurances that the economic ties between the two countries would be strengthened.
He said that the meeting with the Nepali private sector was important for him.
