Kathmandu, Apr. 27
A new trekking peak has been identified in
the Jugal Mountain range near Kathmandu, following a recent exploration led by
local authorities.
According to officials of Jugal Rural
Municipality, a team successfully reached the summit of a 5,570-metre peak in
the Jugal range on March 16 this year. The initiative was conducted by Jugal
Rural Municipality under a study and exploration project led by the Jugal's
Tourism Development Committee.
The newly identified peak has been named 'Jugal
Everest View Point', Chair of the Committee Milan Tamang informed at a press
conference organised by the rural municipality in Kathmandu on Monday.
Chair of Jugal RM, Resham Syangbo, said the
effort aims to promote the Jugal region as a tourism destination and support
local economic activity through increased visitor numbers.
The site offers views of several high Himalayan
peaks, including Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Lhotse and Shishapangma, along with
other peaks in the surrounding range.
Officials stated that the route to the peak
does not require specialised technical climbing skills or equipment, making it
accessible to trekkers with general physical fitness. Its proximity to
Kathmandu is expected to reduce travel time and costs for visitors.
A technical report on the exploration has
also been made public. Local authorities have said the identification of the
peak could contribute to the expansion of trekking destinations in Nepal and
provide opportunities for tourism development in the area.
