Kathmandu, Nov. 30
Minister
for Finance Janardan Sharma has said that journalists should be linked with
production by forming journalist cooperatives to build community capital.
Addressing
the 4th district convention of Press Center, Lalitpur, on Tuesday, he said that
journalists could establish and run their cooperatives.
According
to a statement issued by his secretariat, Minister Sharma said that a
cooperative group of journalists could be formed to be self-reliant and
productive in other ways than just journalism.
"Journalism
is a full-fledged profession but you can also form a co-operative group of
journalists to become self-reliant in other ways," he said.
Minister
Sharma said that there was little possibility of immediate national capital
formation so the country should stress on building community capital first.
He
said that ownership of resources should be provided to the community to
strengthen it by maintaining personal competition.
FM
Sharma added that journalists had the freedom to criticise the party for its
wrong decisions and activities.
"The
press center may be an organisation affiliated with the party, but you have the
freedom to criticise the people of the party when they make a mistake," he
said.
