ICIMOD, Dabur to support Timur production

Kathmandu, Dec. 4

The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and Dabur Nepal are set to support Timur production in Baitidi district.

The two organisations are collaborating with the Taalkolla Community Forest Users' Group to plant 25,000 Timur seedlings within a five-year period with the support from Baitadi Divisional Forest Office.

The objective of this initiative is to achieve livelihoods and conservation outcomes through increasing forest and economic productivity using a multi-stakeholder partnership in Baitadi, ICIMOD and Dabur said in a joint press statement the other day.

Given its geographic and climatic conditions, Baitadi holds good potential for cultivation of Timur.

"This public–private–community partnership will promote ecosystem restoration, enhance livelihood options, and foster sustainable development in the area," read the statement.

The tripartite agreement was signed by the Director General of ICIMOD Pema Gyamtsho, and Business Head of Dabur (Nepal and Myanmar) Harkirat Singh Bedi.
