Govt forms inquiry committee on Teku and Sakhuwasabha incidents

Kathmandu, Aug. 9

The government has formed a five-member investigation committee on the incident of the use of force by the police against the Tamang and Magar communities when they organised a sit in protest at the police station at Teku in Kathmandu last week demanding punishment to advocate Bhagwati Pandey for her statement.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, issued a statement on Wednesday to inform about this development.

The investigation committee formed under the coordination of Under Secretary of MoHA, Ram Bahadur Shahi has been given 10 days to investigate the truth about the injured persons and submit a report on the matter.

Representatives from District Administration Office, Kathmandu, Valley Police Office and National Investigation Department are the members of the committee.

Meanwhile, Bhattarai informed in a separate statement that the government has formed another committee to investigate the truth and submit a report regarding the death of Akash Balami, AKA Binod Tolangi and Bikash Shrestha, prisoners of the Sankhuwasabha inside the prison on August 9.

It is said that the five-member investigation committee formed under the coordination of Kamal Prasad Pandey, Director of the Prison Management Department, has representatives from Nepal Police, National Investigation Department and District Administration Office, Sankhuwasabha.
