Prime Minister Pushpa
Kamal Dahal Prachanda on Saturday paid tribute to those who died in the
landslide in Rudraprayag district on the way to Kedarnath Temple of
Uttarakhanda state in India.
In a tweet on Saturday
evening, he also expressed condolences to the families of the demised.
"The Prime Minister
is deeply saddened by the disappearance of 19 people including 13 Nepali
nationals. He has expressed tribute to the dead ones and condolences to the
concerned families," read the tweet.
A landslide near
Gaurikunda, a famous pilgrimate site en-route to Kedarnath shrine and a base camp
for the trek to the temple in Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini River,
on Thursday killed at least three people including one Nepali while according
to the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi, 16 Nepalis have gone missing.
Nepalis who died and
disappeared in the landslides are from Jumla and Kalikot districts in Nepal.
Seven members of a family from Jumla who were running a hotel at Gaurikunda
have gone missing.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Foreign
Minister NP Saud has requested Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Chief Minister
Pushkar Singh Dhami for the search and rescue of the missing Nepali people.
In a telephone
conversation, CM Dhami informed FM Saud that security personnel and other
agencies have been deployed since Saturday morning to search the missing
persons.
According to the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Dhami had directed the local administration to
expedite the search of the missing persons. However, he had to cancel his trip
to Gaurikunda owing to the bad weather.
Earlier on Friday,
Foreign Minister Saud had directed the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi to
coordinate with the Government of India and leave no stone unturned for the
search, rescue and relief of the missing Nepalis in the Gaurikund landslide.
Meanwhile, our Baitadi
reporter Gokarna Dayal has quoted an Indian journalist, Surendra Arya, and said
that of the 20 people who went missing 14 are Nepalis.
Seven members of the
family including Amar Bohra of Patarasi Rural Municipality-2 of Humla in
Karnali Province have gone missing in the landslide. His wife Anita Bohra,
daughters Radhika Bohra, Pinky Bohra, and sons Prithvi Bohra, Jatil Bohra and Wakil
Bohra.
Similarly, Sugaram Bohra (45), Bam Bahadur Bohra (45), Chandra Kami (26), Dharmaraj Kami (56), Nir Bahadur Rawal (58), his wife Sumita Rawal (52) and daughter Nisha Rawal (20) have gone missing.
According to the Indian
police, Indian citizens Ashu alias Divyansh Bisht (23), Priyanshu Chamola (18),
Rohit Bisht, Ranveer Singh (28), Vinod Singh (26) and Mulayam Singh (25) are
missing in the landslide. Although the bodies of three people were found at the
site, they are yet to be identified.
Indian media reported
that the search and rescue work was halted for a while due to heavy rains
throughout the day on Friday, and the search operation continued on Saturday.
The incident site is 370
metres away from Jhulaghat in Baitadi.
