Chinese minister calls on PM, FM, to meet Prachanda, Oli

Kathmandu, July 10

Minister for International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Liu Jianchao paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Sunday.

Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in a statement informed that matters of mutual interest between Nepal and China were discussed during the meeting.

Likewise, Liu also had a meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Narayan Khadka at the MoFA where the two ministers exchanged views on further strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Minister Liu and his six-member delegation arrived in Kathmandu Sunday morning on a three-day visit to Nepal.

He was welcomed by the representatives of different political parties of Nepal, and an official of the MoFA upon his arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

This is the first foreign trip of Liu after he assumed the leadership of the International Department of the Communist Party of China earlier in June.

Immediately after assuming the post, he had held virtual meetings with Foreign Minister Dr. Khadka, CPN-UML chairman KP Sharma Oli, and CPN-Maoist Centre chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda.

UML leader Pradeep Gyawali informed that visiting Minister Liu and party chairman Oli are scheduled to meet on Tuesday.

"They are likely to discuss about enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries. However, since this is the first visit of Liu, it will be an introductory meeting," Gyawali said.

He also said that relationship between UML and CPC will also be discussed during the meeting.

Likewise, the visiting minister will meet Maoist Centre chairman Prachanda at the latter’s residence in Khumaltar, Lalitpur, Monday afternoon.

Prachanda’s press coordinator Surya Kiran Shrama informed that contemporary issues between the two countries and the parties would be discussed in the meeting.
