EU parliamentarians seek cooperation areas in Nepal

 Kathmandu, Feb. 21

A delegation of European Union – Inter Pares (Parliaments in Partnership) is in Nepal to explore the possible areas of cooperation with parliament here.

Chairman of International Relations and Tourism Committee (IRTC) of the House of Representatives of Nepal, Raj Kishore Yadav and Programme Head of European Union – Inter Pares, Jonathan Murphy had a meeting on Wednesday in this regard.

According to a statement issued by the IRTC, Samjhana Thapaliya and Hari Prasad Uprety and members of Inter Pares, Andrea Wolfe and Carlotta Viaggio participated in the meeting.

Inter Pares was established in 2019 with the aim of enhancing the capacity of Parliament and Secretariat through cooperation with similar parliaments and has been cooperating with 18 parliaments in the world.

IRTC's Chairman, Yadav, said that while there is a need of conducting research on the issues like implementing balanced foreign policy, achievements of federalism, addressing issues of youth and various areas under the jurisdiction of the IRTC, there is a shortage of resources to carry out the desired activities.

He mentioned that there should be an exchange of study and decision-making process of the same parliamentary committee, inter-parliamentary interaction and discussion, exchange programmes, observation visits to other countries' parliaments and parliamentary activities.
