PM and FM express SAARC greetings

 Kathmandu, Dec. 8

Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has extended greetings and felicitations to the governments and people of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member states on the occasion of the Fortieth anniversary of SAARC Charter Day on Sunday.

In his message, he underscored SAARC’s prominent role in fostering mutual trust, understanding and cooperation among member states; and expressed firm commitments of Nepal- current SAARC Chair- to its Charter for building a peaceful, prosperous and integrated South Asia.

"Highlighting persisting socio-economic and environmental challenges including climate change and transnational organised crimes, he also called for revitalising SAARC process for promoting shared interests and prosperity of the people in the region," read a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of Nepal on Sunday.

Likewise, in a separate message, Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba expressed best wishes to the governments as well as the people of SAARC member states on this special occasion.

She acknowledged the vision of founding leaders and the importance of the SAARC Charter in promoting collective self-reliance; improving the quality of life of people, and fostering regional solidarity to address a multitude of common challenges.

According to the MoFA, she also stressed the need to revive and enable SAARC to live up to its objectives including SDGs in the spirit of amity, and mutual consensus enshrined in the Charter.
