Former Finance Minister
Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat Wednesday said that the country achieved significant
progress after the implementation of liberal economic policies.
Inaugurating BG Mall, a
shopping complex, at Gongabu, Dr. Mahat, suggested that it would be better if
the Fast Track and Budhi Gandaki Hydroelectricy Project could be financed by
the internal resources.
“The Fast Track should
be developed within five years. On the other hand, we must be clear whether we
want foreign investment in the fast track or not,” he said.
He stated that the
business institutions that came into operations recently had contributed to the
national economy significantly.
The BG Mall was jointly
inaugurated by Dr. Mahat and president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers
of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Pashupati Murarka.
Murarka said that the
country’s economy prospered because of active participation of the private
sector after the adoption of liberal economic policies therefore, the
government should promote the private businesses and create conducive business
environment.
“Business institutions
like BG Mall create employment, provide service to a large number of people and
help to develop the local economy,” he opined.
Raju Giri, director of the company, informed
that the mall was established to cater quality goods and services to the
consumers from the Kathmandu Valley and outside it. “Consumers can find goods
from clothes to electronics along with food and entertainment in the mall. On
the occasion of its opening, we have offered 20 per cent discount on the
purchase of every item.”
The mall has mobile,
electronics, apparel, cosmetics, restaurants, cinema hall, bank, ATM lounge and
other showrooms.
