Andritz Hydro, a provider of
electromechanical equipment and services for hydropower plants from Austria,
Friday announced that it was opening its permanent office in Kathmandu.
The announcement came following the
company's engagement in Nepalese hydro-power development sector for more than
two decades.
"With the aim of addressing the
needs of existing and future customer and enhancing access of clients to the
company, we have decided to come to Nepal. It has a huge market potential in
hydro-power sector," said Josef M. Ullmer, chief executive officer and
managing director of the company, at a press conference.
Prior to the press conference, the
company organised a two-day customer event here which was inaugurated by
Finance Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara on Thursday.
Ullmer said that the event was
organised to interact with the interested customers and introduce the company's
products among the hydropower developers and generators.
Customers shared their experiences with
Andritz products and services while experts from Austria, Switzerland, Germany,
France and India presented the latest developments in turbine and coating
technology, generator and automation, and how the company could contribute to
hydro-power development in Nepal.
"Andritz has solutions for all
kind of power plant requirements and it extends support through large hydro,
compact hydro, mini compact hydro and service rehab business segments," he
said.
It has a presence in Nepali hydro
market with 117 megawatt of projects already executed and about 700 MW of
projects under construction.
The company has signed contract with
Mid Bhotekoshi Hydropower and Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower and many other
projects under execution.
Andritz's scope of supply comprised the
design, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the
complete electro-mechanical equipment, including 220 kv GIS and the mechanical
balance of plant equipment.
