Kathmandu, Apr. 21
Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar
Gyawali has said that the process to bring in Nepali nationals from various
countries would start once the situation turns favourable.
"We are positive to start the process
to bring Nepalis from abroad. Especially, the government is positive about
addressing the problems of Nepali workers in the Gulf countries," he said
in a video conference with the presidents of the Non-Resident Nepali
Association the other day.
Gyawali talked to the NRNA's presidents of
11 countries.
He said that due to the prolonged lockdown,
the process to bring back Nepali citizens from abroad could not begin.
"The government is aware of the
situation of Nepalis stranded in various countries so process will be initiated
to support them," he said.
Saying that the solution would be sought
through the dialogue with the Nepali missions and NRNs, he urged patience in
the part of the latter.
Minister Gyawali appreciated Nepalis abroad
for their patience and NRN's for their contributions to generating awareness
about coronavirus and relief distribution.
He said that the government was
communicating with the COVID-19 affected countries and Nepali missions were
activated to coordinate with the NRNA where there was no Nepali representation.
NRNA President Kumar Pant said that the
steps taken by the government were effective in checking the spread of the
pandemic.
"We are ready to cooperate with the
government to provide relief to Nepalis stranded in foreign land," he
said.
According to him, Nepalis in the Gulf and
Malaysia are in great troubles. Nepalis in Europe and the United States do not
have much expectation from the government, but the government must take
necessary steps to address the demand of the workers.
NRNA presidents of the United Kingdom,
Germany, the United States, Italy, Spain, Japan, UAE, France, South Korea and
Saudi Arabia had participated in the tele-meeting.
