Kathmandu, Apr 15
Development and Technology Committee under
the Federal Parliament has directed the government to continue the construction
of the national pride projects during the lockdown period with proper caution
recommended by the Ministry of Health and Population.
"The government should commence a
study about the possibility of continuing with the pride projects," said
Kalyani Khadka, chairperson of the committee. "If it is possible to
continue the work by creating quarantine facility at the project site according
to the standards set by the Ministry of Health, the work should be
continued."
According to her, the National Planning
Commission should lead the assessment of the pride projects and should look
into the alternatives of expediting the work at the projects, measures of
workers and staff's health safety and supply of raw materials and construction
materials.
Likewise, Khadka expressed concerns on the
workers walking for days to reach home during the lockdown. She asked the
government to manage essential food and other materials and distribute to the
needful families.
"The workers and staff of the
development projects and daily wage earners in the informal sector are facing
shortage of food and other daily essentials. Many of them are returning home on
foot, walking for days and weeks," said the committee and demanded that
the government should mange the essential commodities at the earliest.
It has asked to provide relief to the
people who were missed the facility in the first phase and distribute food
items for the second time for those who had consumed the materials received.
Likewise, it suggested to arrange stay for
people wherever they are now and provide basic facilities. However, the people
who are on the way to their home should be taken to their home safely.
The committee had recommended a relief
package for the entrepreneurs and workers in the construction sector.
Similarly, it had asked to establish an
integrated information bank to store the necessary information required for the
government, also by integrating the Permanent Account Number (PAN) with the
national identity card. "Server of the bank should be established in
Nepal," said the committee.
