Finance
Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel said on Monday that the cooperatives should
abandon complaining and focus on their contribution to economy.
"Cooperatives
are one of the three pillars of Nepali economy and is the foundation for the
socialism-based society. You now should be productive and focus on economic
activities. The government is ready to create an environment for it," he
said while addressing the 28th Annual Meeting of the National
Cooperative Federation (NCF).
He
said that the Finance Ministry was ready to hold a dialogue with the cooperatives
and urged the latter to be ready to find a new path to economic progress and
development.
"Complaining
takes us nowhere. Make a list of works that the government should do and you
can do. If needed, Prime Minister and the governor of the central bank could
also be invited to a round table for the development of the cooperatives
sector," he said.
Minister
for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Shiva Maya
Tumbahamphe said that the laws that were not cooperatives-friendly would be
amended by the new parliament after the election.
"The
ministry is ready to collaborate with the cooperatives in addressing the
maladies in the sector," she said and urged to provide suggestions for the
same.
NCF
Chairman Minraj Kandel said that cooperatives had contributed to mobilising the
local economy and job creation as well.
A
book written by former Minister Keshav Badal 'Samajbad' and NCF's publication
'Sahakarika Siddantaharu' were also launched on the occasion.
