Govt report claims progress in national unity, prosperity

The government has said that important achievements were made towards national integrity and unity, good governance and prosperity in the Fiscal Year 2019/20.

In its annual report of Fiscal year 2019/20 on progress regarding the implementation of directive principles of the state and good governance submitted to President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday, the government said that there were significant achievements towards fulfilling the national aspiration of 'Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali'.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli submitted the report to the President as per the Article 53 of the constitution.

A new map of the country is published including Limpiyadhura, Lipulek and Kalapani region on the basis of historical facts and evidences and the Federal Parliament unanimously ratified the second amendment to the constitution to adopt the changed map and coat of arms, the government stated in the report.

"Height of Sagarmatha was measured by Nepali human resources. A commission is formed to resolve the land-related disputes and it has already begun its work. Hundreds of bighas of land encroached by various organisations and individuals is returned to the government," said the report.

In the last fiscal year, additional 979 km road was blacktopped and 757 km road was upgraded to graveled path. About 218 bridges were constructed and irrigation facility has been expanded to additional 5567 hectares of land.

Likewise, number of people having access to basic and medium scale water supply facility has increased by 2/2 per cent to reach 91 per cent and 23 per cent respectively.

Basic sanitation service has reached to all people. It was 99 per cent in the previous year. The last fiscal witnessed the addition of 149 megawatt electricity to the national transmission system. At the same time the electricity facility has reached 434,000 more families.

According to the report, of the houses damaged in the devastating 2015 Gorkha Earthquake, 508,141 houses were rebuilt. The Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa has achieved 91 per cent progress while another international airport in Pokhara is 62 per cent complete. Airports in Chandragadhi, Biratnagar, Janakpur, Bharatpur and Dhangadhi were upgraded.

Prime Minister Employment Programme has employed 87,757 individuals from 701 local levels.

In the report, the government has also claimed that it responsibly carried out the liability for the protection and promotion of human rights. It also said that the peace and security were better than previous years.

The year witnessed the mobilization of Rs. 793.7 billion revenue mobilization and 16.8 per cent reduction in trade deficit.

In the last fiscal, President Bhandari visited Myanmar and Japan. Prime Minister Oli participated in the 18th Summit of the Non-Aligned Nations in Baku, Azerbaijan. There were other eight high-level visits as well.

Likewise, President of China Xi Jinping visited Nepal, which was a top-level visit from the north in 23 years. Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid also visited Nepal.
