Only 14.2% make it to second phase of PSC exams

Kathmandu, Dec. 31

About 451,526 Nepali citizens applied for jobs opened while 4,007 applied via online system for internal promotion in the last Fiscal Year 2019/20, said the Public Service Commission (PSC).

In its annual report submitted to President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday, the PSC mentioned that 93,012 candidates (35,866 females and 57,146 males) sat for the competition for civil service. Likewise, 154,002 females and 152,317 males participated in exams for local services.

Only 14.2 per cent candidates vying for the posts of officer and non-gazetted first class officer could make their way to the second phase of selection. No candidates passed in the competition for 12 posts. About 304 candidates were recommended for permanent appointment in the civil service while the number in local levels was 8,639.

“Since many exams were halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number has shrunk compared to the previous years,” said the PSC.

It advertised for promotion to 4754 posts, 92 internal competition and 157 open ones.

In a statement issued after the report submission, the constitutional body hoped that it would have a new team to run it after the term of the current management expires on 23 March.
