Economist Thapa passes away

Economist Dr. Govinda Bahadur Thapa passed away at Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre, Bansbari on Tuesday. He was 73.

He succumbed to COVID-19 while undergoing treatment at the hospital. His last rites were performed at Pashupati Aryaghat also on Tuesday.

He had served as the economic advisor to then Finance Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari, executive director of the Nepal Rastra Bank and member of Manamohan Memorial Institute. 

Thapa is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

General Secretary of Communist Party of Nepal (UML) and Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokhrel, who is also chairman of the institute, expressed condolences on Thapa’s demise.

Pokhrel said in a statement that late Thapa played an important role in formulating the popular budget during Adhikari’s tenure and served at the UML’s Economic and Planning Department.
