Kathmandu, Jun. 1
Federation of
Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Association has welcomed the budget of the next
fiscal year 2021/22.
It has termed
the budget ‘pragmatic’ and ‘positive’.
“The budget of
the coming FY has provisions of concessions and relief for every sector of the
economy and society to address the impacts made by the COVID-19 pandemic,” it
said in a statement on Tuesday.
The Federation
has said that the provision of budget for training programmes for the supply of
skilled human resources to the domestic enterprises, including traditional ones
would help grow the industry.
It has expressed
confidence that if youth were trained in the making of high-value of
jewelleries, they would get high-payment and will stay in the country instead
of leaving it in search of jobs abroad.
“At the time of
global pandemic and decreasing confidence of the private sector, the budget has
instilled hope and confidence with programmes to contain the pandemic and
achieve 6 per cent growth rate,” read the statement.
It appreciated
the programme to execute public-private partnership to refine domestic precious
stones in Surkhet district of Karnali Province.
However,
according to the Federation, the budget failed to address the potential of
high-value jewelleries from Nepal. It expressed hopes that the issue would be
addressed through the monetary policy of the central bank.
It also expected
that the quota restrictions and monopoly in gold import would be ended soon.
