Kathmandu, July 31
Former Finance Minister and CPN (Maoist
Centre) leader, Janardan Sharma Prabhakar has been reappointed to the post of
the finance minister on Sunday.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari appointed him
to the post on the recommendation of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba as per
the Article 76(9) of the Constitution.
President Bhandari administered the oath of
office and secrecy to FM Sharma on Sunday afternoon, the Office of the
President said in a statement. He returned to the office after 25 days of his
resignation from the same post.
FM Sharma had resigned from the post on July
6 amid the controversy of inviting unauthorised persons to manipulate the tax
rates at the last minutes of the finalisation of the budget for the current
fiscal year 2022/23. A parliamentary committee acquitted him.
He was appointed as the FM of the Deuba-led
government last year.
He assumed the post on the same day. On the
occasion, he said that he had announced a budget to create a self-reliant and
production-oriented budget for the current year. "I am committed to
implementing the budget to strengthen the economy. Weaknesses in the budget
implementation last year will be assessed to find effective ways for budget
mobilisation," he said.
He also expressed his belief in
strengthening the economy by import substitution, export growth and foreign
currency reserves.
