Programme on ‘Mountaineering and Trekking in Nepal’ organised in China

Kathmandu, Aug. 9

The Embassy of Nepal in Beijing, China, has organised a programme on 'Mountaineering and Trekking in Nepal' at its office the other day to mark the 67th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The embassy said that the programme was organised under the economic diplomacy programme.

Nepali Ambassador to China, Bishnu Pukar Shrestha, said that the programme was organised to honour the Chinese citizens who have climbed Mount Everest from Nepali side and to promote the potential of mountaineering and trekking tourism in Nepal.

He mentioned that Nepal offers natural and cultural diversity in abundance to the tourists. "There are Everest, eight mountain peaks with a height of more than 8,000 meters, Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, and the world heritage listed tourist sites in Nepal," he said while inviting the tourists to Nepal and calling for the promotion of tourist destinations.

Ambassador Shrestha discussed the cordial bilateral relations between Nepal and China and said that bilateral relations will be further strengthened by high-level visits and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

The ambassador presented letters of honour to 31 Chinese citizens who climbed the Everest from Nepal side.

President of China Adventure Association in Beijing, Han Bo, and representative of International Mountain Tourism Alliance, Xu Siming, presented their views and experiences in the field.

Similarly, President of Nepal Mountaineering Association, Nima Nuru Sherpa, and President of Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents, Ramesh Thapa, made a presentation through virtual media and shed light on the features and attractions of Nepal's mountain climbing and trekking.

Xia Boyu, a Chinese citizen who had climbed the Everest four times, showed a touching video about his experience of climbing the mountain. He is the first Chinese citizen to climb the Everest with artificial legs. He had lost his legs while climbing Everest.
