CSOs urge UN for financial access to Nepal

The civil society organizations (CSOs) in Nepal Thursday urged the United Nations to guarantee Nepal’s easy and justifiable access to the international financial resources and development assistance.
Issuing a common declaration on Sustainable Development Agenda (SDA) 2030, more than 10,000 CSOs suggested the UN to implement the principles of climate justice and ‘polluter must pay’, and urged for additional assistance to Nepal other than the current Official Development Assistance (ODA) under international assistance of climate finance.
“Poor country should not be burdened with international loans in the name of climate finance,” read the declaration.
Welcoming the sustainable development agenda ‘Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Nepalese CSOs praised the UN for its role in developing the SDA.
They asked the government to establish accountability system for result-oriented implementation of the SDA. “We urge the government to clarify the role of central, provincial and local level governments in implementing the SDA in the respective areas in the future.”
