Japan to provide Rs. 3.5 billion for Rehabilitation

Japan agreed to provide grant assistance of Rs. 3.5 billion to Nepal for post-quake rehabilitation and recovery projects.
Joint secretary of International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division at the Ministry of Finance (MoF) Baikuntha Aryal and chief representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for Nepal Tsutomu Shimizu signed on the agreements of ‘The project on rehabilitation and recovery from Nepal earthquake’ amid a function at the MoF.
The agreement was done in response to the exchange of notes of grant assistance between Nepal and Japan on December last year.
The grant will be used for the reconstruction of Paropakar Matarnity and Women’s Hospital, Bir Hospital, rehabilitation of water transmission system in Chautara, Sindhupalchowk and bridge construction along Barhakili-Barpak road in Gorkha, informed JICA.
“JICA Nepal believes that the reconstruction of Bir Hospital will support to provide quality health service to the general public while reconstruction of Paropakar Maternity Hospital will support in quality reproductive health service to women and provide essential care for women and newborn babies.”

Bir Hospital, the oldest and one of the busiest hospitals in Nepal, was established in 1889 and Paropakar Hospital came into operation in 1959.
