Fordays Nepal launches training for workers

Kathmandu, Feb. 18

Fordays Nepal Pvt. Ltd. has been launched in Kathmandu on Wednesday with the objective of providing specialised, field-based training to Nepali nationals preparing to work in Japan under structured labour programmes.

The company said that it is the first company in Nepal established with the specific aim of developing skilled and competent workers domestically before their deployment to Japan.

"The company will provide training under Japan’s Technical Intern Training Programme (TITP) and Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) scheme," Authorised Representative of Fordays in Nepal Prem Katuwal said at a programme organised to inaugurate the company formally.

The training will focus on three sectors- food service, fine dining, and elderly care. According to Katuwal, the initiative seeks to enhance workers’ technical competence and workplace readiness, thereby reducing the difficulties Nepali workers often face after arriving in Japan.

The training is designed as a 130-hour field-based programme and will be offered to candidates who have already passed the Japanese language examination, succeeded in employment interviews with recruiting companies, and obtained the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from Japanese immigration authorities.

Fordays Nepal aims to train 300 individuals annually in each sector, with a total annual target of 900 trainees.

Company said Nepali workers in these sectors are often required to undergo additional training in Japan before starting work.

According to Katuwal, by providing practical training in Nepal, including orientation on workplace practices, language use, and living conditions, the programme intends to help workers transition more smoothly into employment. The training will be delivered by Japanese instructors deputed from Japan.

The company also noted that many Nepali students travel to Japan on student visas after completing basic language requirements, often investing significant sums but lacking practical job skills. Fordays stated that its programme is intended to address this gap by focusing on employment-oriented training.

Speaking at the programme, Secretary of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Dr. Dipak Kafle, lauded the establishment of the company and said that there should more efforts in sending skilled workers to Japan so that the both the individual and the country could be benefitted.

A delegation from Fordays Co. Ltd., Japan, including its chief executive, attended the inaugural programme. They appreciated the infrastructure, amenities and equipment managed to train the students in a real-life scenario.

Chinese language training starts

Chinese language training for Nepal’s tourism professionals and entrepreneurs began on Friday.

Speaking at the inauguration of the training programme, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey expressed confidence that the training would contribute significantly to the promotion of Nepal’s tourism.

“Knowledge of the Chinese language will serve as a bridge between Nepal and China, and I believe it will help promote tourism," he said.

He highlighted that linguistic knowledge is akin to adding value.

According to him, the more languages one learns, the more one enhances their competence. Being proficient in a language plays a vital role in facilitating interpersonal communication and building closeness with others.

Minister Pandey also noted that language carries the essence of civilisation, history, and philosophy. Referring to Chinese language interpreters as skilled human resources, he stated, “Those trained in the Chinese language can work as cultural ambassadors. It not only supports tourism development but also creates opportunities for self-employment.”

Minister Pandey also urged the Chinese attendees to explore Nepal’s natural beauty. “Since China has also declared a Nepal Tourism Year, I urge our Chinese friends to visit and experience Nepal’s nature. One can never get enough of Nepal,” he said.

Noting the visible decline in snow on Nepal’s mountains due to climate change, Minister Pandey also informed that efforts are underway for mitigation and adaptation to climate change.

The training is jointly organised by the Nepal Tourism Board and the Chinese Embassy in Nepal.

Speaking on the occasion, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, said that the seventh batch of language training was organised to mark the 75^th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China.

“This is the third time I’ve attended the inauguration of a language training programme since arriving in Nepal. As Chinese tourists visiting Nepal expect communication in their own language, this training will help enhance the quality of Nepal’s tourism,” he said.

Ambassador Song also said that Chinese tourists coming to Nepal are not only interested in shopping or visiting destinations but also wish to experience local culture and communicate in their own language. Knowledge of the Chinese language will help convey Nepal’s history to these tourists and contribute to the long-term excellence of service quality.

He further stated that learning Chinese is a golden opportunity to benefit from the world’s largest tourism market.

Likewise, Acting CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board, Hikmat Singh Ayer, said that the Chinese language training is a significant initiative.

To date, 240 individuals have been trained through six previous batches of the Chinese language training programme in Nepal. Following an agreement reached during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s visit to China to strengthen Nepal-China relations, the training has been conducted in Nepal since 2016.

ICA Training Centre in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, Feb. 23: With an aim of providing space and skill for human development through training and development, an ICA Training Centre has been launched in Kathmandu.

“The centre has been created with an aim to build people’s required capacities to develop organisation and nation. The mission of ICA Training Centre is to provide facility for training and human capacity building,” said Sudip Koirala, chief executive officer of the centre.

With the objective of providing space for learning, the ICA has established training and boarding venue in various countries such as USA, Belgium, Chile, India and Nepal.

The centre is associated with ICA Nepal which has about 20 years of experience in building human capacities by providing trainings and conducting community development programs.

“We provide support to the young entrepreneurs on business incubation service with ideas, mentoring networks, financial arrangement and other services to help their business grown.  To meet these objectives, we are supporting new entrepreneur project which is built to develop e- commerce facilities in Nepalese market,” said Koirala.

The name of the project is HandPro Support Service which provides complete home maintenance solution.

According to Koirala, the centre has the training halls, accommodation facilities, conference halls and a restaurant on its premises

It has 6 training halls with the capacity of accommodating 20 to 100 people.

Apart from providing space for trainings and other supports, the centre also provides different skilled trainings.

The ICA Training Centre is affiliated to European Technical and Vocational Academy and Lincoln University, Malaysia.
