Nepal self-reliant in plywood

Kathmandu, Feb. 5
Minister for Finance Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada has emphasised on production of quality plywood at a competitive price.
In a meeting with the delegate of Plywood Producers Association on Wednesday at his office at the Singha Durbar, he expressed happiness over Nepal’s self-reliance on plywood.
“It is a matter of happiness that the country has become self-reliant in plywood and related products. However, you have to be conscious in terms of the quality of your products,” he said to the plywood producers.
Minister Khatiwada said that the government was working to create scientific forest management system by developing the soft wood species of trees as the cash crops.
Stating that the government had the policy to promote and protect the domestic industry and businesses in order to create employment and reduce trade deficit, FM Khatiwada said that he would try to address the challenges faced by the plywood producers.
President of the association Pradip Kumar Chaudhari had presented the problems of the producers to the finance minister.
There are 67 plywood-related industries in the country which are employing about 30,000 people.
