Private sector to manage ICP in Birgunj

Kailasha Terminals JV (a joint venture of Bindabasini Logistics Pvt. Ltd. of Nepal, and TRS Lift and Shift Services Pvt. Ltd and APJ Shipping Limited) has won the contract to operate the Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Birgunj along the Nepal-India border.

Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Board (NITDB) informed in a statement on Thursday that the company's proposal stood the best among the five competing for the operation of the ICP – Highway-Atlas-EFC JV, Kathmandu, Pristine Interstate JV, New Delhi, India, TransNepal Freight Services Pvt. Ltd., Biratnagar, SS Terminals JV, Kathmandu and Kailasha Terminals JV, Kathmandu.

The ICP has been running under the management of NITDB since its launch in April 2018. The Board – an agency under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, has called for an international bidding to operate the facility on July 27, 2022.

Kailasha Terminals JV has formed a new company, TRS Himalayan Logipark Pvt. Ltd., to manage the ICP.

Representative of the company Madhav Prasad Baral and Deputy Director of NITDB, Hare Krishna Mishra signed the contract to handover the operation and management of the ICP for the next five years.

Executive Director of the NITDB and representatives of the Board and TRS Himalayan were present on the occasion. The company will manage the ICP from April 1, 2023. It will pay minimum Rs. 1.89 billion to the NITDB.

In case the number of vehicles went up in the future, the company would have to pay additional fee to the Board.
