The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) informed on Sunday
that the government has constructed 40 suspension bridges at various locations
across the country.
Deputy Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister,
Prakash Man Singh, informed at a programme organised at the MoUD that his
Ministry has been able to meet the set targets in the first 100 days since his
assumption of the post.
According to him, the Ministry had a target to construct 50
suspension bridges in the first 100 days but out of them 33 were built while
seven additional bridges were also constructed at the same time.
Likewise, the MoUD said that
the construction of the administrative building of 25 local bodies has been
completed during this period. The local bodies that have completed the new
administrative building are Deumai Municipality, Itahari Sub-Metropolitian City,
Rangeli Municipality, Sunkoshi Rural Municipality, Barahapokhari Rural Municipality,
Gaurishankar Rural Municipality, Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality, Rubi
Valley Rural Municipality, Gangajamuna Rural Municipality, Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality,
Lisankhu Pakhar Rural Municipality, Baudikali Rural Municipality, Purbakhola
Rural Municipality, Bagnashkali Rural Municipality, Madi Rural Municipality,
Tanjakot Rural Municipality, Bunglan Rural Municipality, Bitthdachir Rural Municipality,
Triveni Rural Municipality, Panchadebal Binayak Municipality, Purbi Chauki Rural
Municipality, Shikhar Municipality, KI Sign Rural Municipality, Api Himal Rural
Municipality, Naugad Rural Municipality and one in Morang.
The MoUD said that the longest suspension bridge in the
country was completed in Susta Rural Municipality in Nawalparasi (West).
President Ramchandra Paudal inaugurated the infrastructure facility before the
Dashain festival.
Similarly, emergency shelters were constructed in Jaleshwor
Municipality of Mahottari and Tilathi Koiladi of Saptari. The target was to
complete four such facilities in four locations while the remaining two in
Tilagupha in Kalikot and Chandannath in Jumla are at the finishing stage,
informed DPM Singh.
Meanwhile, building construction for health facilities
including district public health offices, Ayurveda clinics, health posts and
sub-regional hospitals was also completed.
DPM Singh maintained that the Ministry was working on
multiple projects and it would take a while to get the results. "We are
working to make the cities safe. We have also made rules and procedures to
operate large structures like commercial complex, city hall and Dharahara,"
he said.
