Kathmandu, Mar. 3:
Minister for Industry Nabindra Raj
Joshi termed the success of the Investment Summit as the foundation of a
prosperous Nepal.
"It's a beginning of a journey
towards prosperous Nepal. By attracting more investment, we can create myriads
of opportunities in the country," said the Minister who appeared more
confident with the FDI intent of about Rs. 1.34 trillion.
The government was hoping to harness
the commitment of about Rs. 100 billion rupees only from the Summit.
According to him, there is no political
threat to the investors.
Leaders of three major political
parties, including the main opposition CPN-UML, had expressed their commitment
to give high priority to investment, both domestic and foreign, and assured
their support to promoting and facilitating investment in the infrastructure
and other pertinent sectors which is a must for the country to fulfill its
infrastructure gap and lead the country to the middle income country by 2030.
"My dream is to provide employment
opportunity to every youth in the country. We have the potential to have them
here but we failed to do so since we continuously missed the opportunities to
attract investment," he said.
He stated that the world was standing
on the wall and watching, but it had jumped to invest in Nepal therefore the
country needed to work hard to keep the aspirations of the investors alive.
"I would like send message to the
investors around the world that the opportunity has knocked on their door and
those who open it first will be benefitted," Joshi said in a press
conference at the sideline of the Summit.
The two-day conference, organised after
two-and-a-half decades, was attended by 775 delegates including 285 foreign
investors, experts and businessmen.
The conference witnessed plenary
sessions on investment opportunities, investing in Nepal – experience sharing
and international experience sharing, and six moderated panel discussions on
energy and industrial infrastructure, information and communication technology,
tourism, financial sector, agriculture and forestry, and mines and minerals.
Secretary at the Ministry of Industry
Shankar Koirala said that the government was planning to hold such event in
every three years.
