Indian Finance Minister Arun
Jaitley has said that India desired to see an economically able Nepal.
Addressing the Nepal Investment
Summit 2017, ongoing in Kathmandu, he remarked that Nepal was the land of
opportunities for the investors.
“Nepal and India are
collaborating in infrastructure projects like hydroelectricity production,
transmission line and irrigation. Cultural and religious tourism is another
important area for cooperation between the two neighbours,” he said.
He pledged to enhance joint
venture initiatives in the future.
Jaitley urged the government to
create a doing business environment with easier entry and exit policies.
“Nepal should focus on
infrastructure development in order to push the country for greater economic
progress. Attention should be given to long-term tax regimes and policy
reforms,” he suggested to the government.
Similarly, addressing the
conference as the key note speaker, president of Asian Infrastructure
Investment Bank (AIIB) Jin Liqun pledged to support Nepal in its development
initiatives.
“Find out bankable
infrastructure and promote them internationally,” he said.
Former Finance Minister Dr. Ram
Sharan Mahat said that it was the time to rekindle the stunted economic growth
to push the country on the path of economic progress.
“High value agro products and
clean energy are two of the major sectors that could attract foreign investors.
We have developed a model Project Development Agreement after years of efforts,
it will facilitate you,” he said.
More than 250 foreign investors
from two dozens countries are participating in the summit.
