Kathmandu, Nov. 12
A mediation centre has been established at the secretariat
of the Federation of Nepali Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) in Teku.
Supreme Courte Justice Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada and
FNCCI President Bhawani jointly inaugurated the centre amidst a function on
Tuesday.
Khatiwada wished that the centre could be an
effective means for business dispute resolution.
He urged the private sector to make the mediation
method an appropriate and effective means for commercial dispute resolution.
"Since mediation is the
fast, efficient and cost-effective method for commercial dispute resolution,
the Supreme Court has accorded top priority to it and the establishment of such
centres for the amicable solution of problems," said Khatiwada.
Similarly, Rana said that
the business community should take mediation as an appropriate means of dispute
resolution.
"It prevents the
disputes being taken to the courts and thus damaging the image of the business institutions
and individuals which will ultimately be counterproductive in terms of public
relations and profit making," she said.
Senior Vice-President of the
FNCCI Shekhar Golchha expressed his commitment to developing the centre as the
focal point to support the private sector in commercial dispute resolution.
He also said that since the
private sector was yet to fully understand the importance of mediation, the
FNCCI would launch an awareness campaign about it.
