Kathmandu, Nov. 12
Foreign Affairs Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali called on
visiting Bangladeshi President Mohammad Abdul Hamid on Tuesday.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issues of bilateral
interest were discussed during the meeting.
"Enhancing connectivity and promotion of tourism were
the major agenda discussed in the meeting. We also talked about increasing trade
relations between the two neighbours," said Gyawali.
President Hamid recalled Nepal's support during the
Bangladeshi war of liberation and Nepal's step to recognise it as the
independent country, he said. Nepal was the seventh country to recognise Bangladesh's
status as an independent country after the liberation war in 1972.
President Hamid pledged support and partnership to realise
Nepal's national aspiration of 'Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali' and stressed on
increasing the frequency of high-level exchanges between the two countries.
We have also talked about enhancing partnership and
cooperation at various global and regional arrangements like the United
Nations, South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and BIMSTEC,
said Minister Gyawali.
FM Gyawali urged President Hamid to collaborate on the issue
of climate change which is equally threatening to both the countries and
extended invitation to participate in the Sagarmatha Sambad being organised by
Nepal in 2020.
