Kathmandu,
Nov. 14
The
Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has officially
decided to call off the Special General Meeting scheduled for Friday November 15.
The
Executive Committee Meeting of the FNCCI on Thursday had decided to cancel the
meeting that was said to be organised to amend the provision in the statute of
the organisation that allowed the senior vice-president to be automatically
elected to the post of the president.
The
meeting has endorsed the decision of the Standing Committee of the organisation
which was made last week. If the statute was amended as it was proposed, it
would have stopped Senior Vice-President Shekhar Golchha from becoming the
president of the FNCCI although he was elected to the current post as the
future leader of the organisation.
Likewise,
the meeting has again decided to move ahead with the social security plan and
Socual Security Fund as proposed by the government.
"We
will make further move regarding the social security issue after discussing
with the member organisations, district and municipal chamber of commerce and
industry, commodity association and associate industries at the earliest,"
said the FNCCI, in a statement.
FNCCI,
though in abstract terms, said that the government attitude towards the
business community might have adverse impact on the domestic and foreign
investments in the country.
It
drew the attention of the government towards showing respectful behaviour to
the businessmen and said that it expected the same from the other stakeholder
agencies.
The
meeting appointed former government secretary Dharanidhar Khatiwada as the
Director General of the organisation.
