The Department
of Transport Management (DoTM) has introduced a practice of showing the driving
license test results and smart card print status on mobile phones.
In an effort to
address the grievances of the service seekers while obtaining the driving
license, the DoTM has initiated a new system to inform the people about the
results of their driving license test and information about the smart card
print status through SMS.
Until
now, the service seekers had to visit the DoTM office to see the results and
get the information about the license print status.
The DoTM is the
government body responsible for issuing driving licenses.
Director General
of the Department Lawanya Kumar Dhakal and Managing Director of Sparrow SMS Arvind
Shah recently signed an agreement and jointly launched the system.
Dhakal expressed
his confidence that use of information and communication technology (ICT) would
be effective in informing the license aspirants about the test results and
license print status.
The
DoTM has begun distribution of smart driving license since December 2015.
Unlike
the conventional driving licenses, these digital driving licenses incorporate
electronic chips similar to the SIM cards and contain information about the
driver’s identity.
Any
individual passing the written examination for acquiring a driving license and
successfully completing the ‘trial’ is eligible to receive the smart cards.
The
department has also recently started online application process for driving
license in Nepal. To support this, the department is using SMS service to
inform the service seekers about the driving license results of the written
tests and driving license print status.
With
the implementation of the new system, the people do not need to visit the DoTM to check the status of their driving license
print and the results of the written examinations.
People
can receive the information by sending SMS to 33001 for just Rs. 5.
To
check the result of the written test, the users have to type ‘WT
[Application ID number]’ and Send it to 33001.
Similarly,
to check smart driving license print status, the users have to type ‘LC
[Application ID Number]’ and Send it to 33001.
An
average of 3,000 users apply for smart driving license every working day.
