I will work to prevent migration of manpower: Minister Bhandari

Kathmandu, Jan. 18

Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari has said that he will work to prevent the migration of manpower in lack of employment in home and to increase new employment opportunities in Nepal.

“This is possible only through industrial development, so I will cooperate with the business bodies like the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI),” he said in a meeting with a delegation of CNI at his office in Singh Durbar on Wednesday.

The CNI delegation led by its President Vishnu Kumar Agrawal had met with the newly appointed minister for industry to congratulate him and discuss the contemporary issues in the industrial sector and national economy, the CNI said in a statement.

Minister Bhandari also said that he would listen to the demands and suggestions of the private sector entrepreneurs.

On the occasion, CNI President Agrawal urged Minister Bhandari to boost the morale of industrialists and to adopt a policy to revive the economy which is in a challenging situation while the morale of industrialists is very low due to high contraction in demand, high interest rates, and lack of investable capital.

He said that industrialisation of Nepal should be promoted with high priority as sustainable development could be achieved only through the establishment of manufacturing industries and it could create enough employment opportunities.

“The government has expressed its commitment to cooperate in the ‘Make in Nepal – Swadeshi’ campaign promoted by the CNI as a prominent part of the government's minimum common programme. We thank the government and pledge to support in the drive,” said Agrawal.

Similarly, he urged the minister to encourage import-substituting industries, implement the unimplemented industrial areas as soon as possible through public-private partnership as per the model of India's Rudrapur Industrial Zone.

He presented a suggestion paper Rebooting Nepali EconomyÚ, with steps to be taken immediately to give momentum to the national economy which is in difficult situation, to the minister

The Confederation has also suggested measures that can be taken immediately by prioritising the financial sector (liquidity crisis and high interest rates), industrial promotion, infrastructure, tourism, energy and information technology sectors to give the economy a new momentum.
