Private sector, government should work to solve unemployment

 Kathmandu Jan. 15

President of Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) Rajendra Malla said on Sunday that a collective initiative from the public and private sectors should be taken to end unemployment- a major challenge in the country.

"Entrepreneurship should be increased and employment should be created across the country through collective investment since unemployment has emerged as a major challenge for economic development and prosperity," he said while addressing the fourth general meeting of Pokhara Chamber of Commerce in Kaski,

Every year, 500,000 youths enter the labour market, but they are forced to go abroad because of lack of employment opportunities in the country.

According to Malla, there is a need for collaboration between the private sector and the government to create new jobs in addition to collective investment in industry and small businesses.

Stating that jobs can be created in agriculture, tourism, and small industries, Malla drew the attention of the government to create a plan to create extra-time jobs for the students studying in the university.

He said that students can work in agriculture, information technology and industrial fields while taking classes at the university.
