‘Andolan’: a trip down memory lane of history

Almost 11 elapsed since Janandolan II but its memories are still vivid in the minds of those who participated in it.
Young playwright Saurabh Karki and a band of artistes take you to the moments of the history.
The play, 'Andolan' that is being staged at the Theatre Mall at Kathmandu Mall, Sundhara depicts the peoples' uprising that eventually ended the two-and-a-half century long monarchical system and made the country a republic.
It tells a tale of three students who live in a rented room in a city and participate in the rallies and other programmes organised against the autocratic kingship.
About an hour long 'Aandolan' has all necessary ingredients - humour, conflict, love and friendship. It has juxtaposed the republican supporters with pro king forces through the house owner and students while there is a character that thinks that the movement is not necessary since it hits the working class people, specially the poor.

"I don't know about the king or republic, what I know is I have poor parents and a sister in a village, and I should always strive to bring smile to their faces. My toil is for them," he says.
After watching the play on Saturday afternoon, one of the leaders of people's movement in Gongabu of Kathmandu Shamsher Bahadur Gaiju said that the drama depicted the exact situation during the movement.

The play is directed by Sudam CK, and artistes performing on the stage are Rear Rai, Samyog Guragai, Ingi Hoppo Koinch Sunuwar, Sijan Dahal, Milan Karki, Binita Gurung and Sudip Khatiwada. The play will be staged till 24th April at 5:30 PM every day. There will be additional show at 1:30 PM on Saturday.
