Kathmandu,
Mar. 13: Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), Embassy of India in Kathmandu organised
a cultural evening the other day where a band of Indian and Nepalese artistes
presented Bhangra and Giddha performances.
Twelve artistes from the Indian Centre of Cultural
Relations (ICCR) and students of ICC in Kathmandu enthralled the audience at
the City Hall with their moves on the stages.
The musician and dancers presented the rich cultures
and music of Punjab and southern states of India. They mesmerized the audience
with Bhangra, Giddha, Sufi and other cultural performances.
Although Giddha was newer taste to the Nepalese
audience, they enjoyed the popular folk dance of women in Punjab region of
India and Pakistan.
Both Bhangra and Giddha were very energetic
performance which forced the audience to tap their feet and move their body.
The programme, organised on the occasion of Baisakhi
and Nepali New Year 2074, and titled as 'Colours of Northern and Southern
States of India' was organised in association with Gurdwara Guru Nanak Satsang,
Kathmandu.
Indian ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri
inaugurated the programme and wished both the Punjabi community in Kathmandu
and Nepalese people a happy new year.
Punjabis celebrated their new year, Baisakhi, on
Thursday. The performances were replicated at the Gurudwara in Kopundole of
Lalitpur on Thursday.
