First female president of FNCCI assumes post

Kathmandu, Apr. 12: With the assumption of the post of president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) on Wednesday, Bhawani Rana created history as the first female chief of the largest private sector body in the country.
A special AGM of the FNCCI last year had amended the statute of the organisation to automatically elect the senior vice-president as president, which created an opportunity for Rana to become the president of the private sector body without contesting the election.
Rana is the 18th president of the umbrella body of the Nepalese private sector and has replaced Pashupati Murarka.
She has more than two decades’ experience in business, namely hospitality, banking and agriculture.
Rana was one of the founding members of the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal (FEWAN).
She had joined the FNCCI about 11 years ago and was elected as a member of the women’s executive committee from 2008 to 2011.
She is managing director of Sneha Group Pvt. Ltd., which has investments in the hospitality industry in Nepalgunj of Banke district and in Kathmandu.
She is the MD of Sneha B&S Collaboration Pvt. Ltd., president of Sneha Culture Entertainment and director of Padhya Creation.
Likewise, Rana is promoter of the SAARC Chamber of Craft Village and Bageshwori Development Bank.
She has a post-graduate degree in political science from Lucknow University, India.
“I believe in teamwork, so I will pull all the office bearers together so as to form a strong team to work in the interest of the private sector,” she said.
The 51st Annual General Assembly on April 10 and 11 elected the senior VP and three VPs who also assumed their posts on Wednesday.
Shekhar Golchha has been elected to the post of senior VP while Chandra Prasad Dhakal, Pramod Shrestha and Umesh Lal Shrestha were elected to the post of VP Associates Group, District/Municipal Group and Commodities Group respectively.
Golchha defeated Kishor Kumar Pradhan while Dhakal was elected unanimously.
Likewise, Umesh  bet Shankar Pandey and Anup Bahadur Malla, and Pramod overcame Dinesh Shrestha to be elected as the VPs.

They will serve for a tenure of three years.
