Ensure access of vulnerable people to relief: House panel


Kathmandu, May 6
The Women and Social Committee of the Parliament Wednesday directed the government to enhance the access of vulnerable people like children, pregnant women, disabled and senior citizens to relief and psycho-social health facilities.

A meeting of the committee today directed the government and the Ministry of Health and Population and Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen to run a publicity campaign to create awareness about the child-friendly materials and arrange further coordination and monitoring to ensure the access of vulnerable people to the relief and other facilities during the coronavirus pandemic period.

"It can be estimated that the impact of lockdown would take a heavy toll on women, children, senior citizen and disabled people. So this committee draws attention of the MoWCSC to make necessary arrangement to ensure the access of those people to the relief," said the committee.

It has also directed the government to make periodic monitoring of the orphanage, child home, maternity hospital and home for elderly citizens and examine the condition of nutrition.

Likewise, the house panel also said that the quarantine facilities were not managed so as to address the demand of different sex, age and physical condition and directed the MoWCSC and National Women Commission to manage the quarantine camps in a way to minimise the sexual, physical and psychological violence.

It also asked the ministries to arrange facility to hear the compliant online and via toll-free telephones. "Priority should be given to the grievance and compliant of the vulnerable people," it said.
